As the temperatures start to drop, animals must adapt to the new freezing environment. In this program, Freezin’ Season, we take a closer look at the adaptations that animals must have to endure the changing seasons. Students will get to explore how wood frogs withstand the winter by participating in a fun science experiment! Learn how animals insulate their bodies during hibernation and how migratory animals fly south to escape the cold through a series of hands on interactive STEM activities.INQUIRE

Next, they will have the chance to learn how to live a more waste free life by making biodegradable water bubbles, which were invented to provide an alternative to plastic waste, or by turning something old into something new by recycling used paper into new ready to use paper!INQUIRE
Homes and Habitats
In our Homes and Habitats programs, students will have to think like a bird to build their very own bird nest! They will discover the challenges that nesting birds face by using only material that a bird would find. Next, through an interactive activity students will explore the habitats of some of Manitoba’s native wildlife and will be tasked with identifying what makes a good home for these animals.
Biodiversity of Manitoba’s Birds
Birds in Manitoba range from the smallest hummingbird to the largest eagle. In this program, students will explore the diversity of birds within four orders: song birds (Passeriformes), owls (Strigiformes), hawks, eagles & kites (Accipitriformes) and waterfowl (Anseriformes). Students will: group taxa, identify species by scientific name with the use of a dichotomous key, make predictions about the diversity of species between orders and within orders, take wing and foot measurements of various species and look at feather structures under a microscope and compare skull size and structures.
If you don’t see a program that fits your needs, we are able to structure a program that suits your requirements. We can customize material for any age or audience incorporating themes like wildlife ecology, wildlife rehabilitation, conservation, biodiversity, seasonal adaptations, habitat preservation, and more.INQUIRE
